It seemed like we were here just yesterday

I had a spontaneous idea on Saturday to head down to Bloomington, IN yesterday to visit a friend at IU. Driving down on IN-37 brought back some pretty sweet memories. The last time I went to Bloomington was back in high school for the Indiana YABA (Young American Bowling Association) State Tournament. Ever since then, I have painted a picture of Bloomington in my head. I remember where I went, where things were, what they looked like.

So it was a great surprise that as I was driving through Bloomington that thoughts came drifting back. Even before reaching Bloomington, I passed by a spot on the highway where my science summer camp had pulled over to the side of the road to check out the rock formations. I’m pretty sure I had the exact spot down, because there are only a few possible places that a school bus could have possibly stopped.

What really brought back memories was when my friend Jake suggested that we go bowling at Classic Lanes. I was on the teen travelers bowling team for Woodland Bowl back in the day, so I’ve been to a ton of different bowling alleys. Even though I had a picture in my mind of where I bowled in the State Tournament, I couldn’t remember which bowling alley I actually bowled at. So it was pretty awesome to walk into this bowling alley and have memories come back.

And as I was bowling, it felt like all those years in-between high school and that moment never happened. It felt like I was just there the other day. Do you have moments like that? I know I do. There have been friends that I’ve reconnected with and it feels like all the time that we were apart never happened. It’s strange how that happens, isn’t it? But it’s also pretty sweet to relive some good memories.
