What does it mean to be blessed?
I have been extremely busy getting caught up at work today. But I have finally made great progress and have been looking over status updates on Facebook… because you know, I want to see what everyone’s up to. I find it odd that often times, people will make the claim that they are “blessed.” Usually when one makes that claim, it’s usually in reference to something good that has happened in their life or if they’ve gotten something they’ve wanted.
But it got me thinking, how often do we say we’re blessed when we’re going through the darkest times in our lives? Think about it, honestly. When we’re going through those dark times, we definitely seek God and His guidance, but do we say we’re blessed? Those who are able to see the cup as “half full” can begin to count those blessing in their lives and say that they’re blessed. But what about those who see the glass as “half empty.” Will they see themselves as blessed when they go through trials?
When I first became a Christian, my doctor (Mark Richards) had this written on his whiteboard in his office:
If God brings you to it,
He will bring you through it.Happy moments Praise God.
Difficult moments Seek God.
Quiet moments Worship God.
Painful moments Trust God.
Every moment Thank God.
Just a nice little reminder for me to remember that no matter the circumstance, I am blessed and that there are many ways for me to seek out God.
