(Almost) Daily How-To #44
Watching: Eyewitness News at 5:30 p.m. Kind of wish we had anchormen like Ron Burgundy.
Thinking: I’m looking forward to it warming up, having the windows open in my apartment, the windows in the car rolled down, and having fun with my best friends. For now, it’s time to head to the gym and imagine it being warm outside.
Thankful For: The life of Chuck Daugherty. It’s kind of weird how I found out. I had just turned off my iPod and was getting ready to go home when I heard Serena was preparing a funeral program. This was odd to me because I hadn’t heard of anyone dying recently. Turns out that Chuck lost his battle with cancer on December 21st and his memorial service is coming up soon.
Chuck was one of the first “batch” of people I met when I started coming to Grace Community Church almost six years ago. We served on the “speaker’s assistant” team together. We joked about how we were the pastor’s secret service detail, we talked about creating a contraption to lift the podium on the stage so we didn’t have to.
He loved western-style gun battles… having two six-shooter revolvers and seeing who could draw their gun faster. Perhaps one of the greatest things I will remember about Chuck was how he always gave me huge bear hugs. I can’t remember the last time I saw him, I remember it was sometime last year. He had lost a lot of weight and didn’t look like his normal self… he was too weak to lift me up for a big bear hug (I don’t blame him, I’ve gained some weight).
So now I wonder, will Chuck be waiting at the gates of heaven to give me a big bear hug? Or will he be standing down a long walkway with two six-shooter revolvers ready to draw? I’ll miss you Chuck, thanks for being a part of my life.
How to Make Me Laugh: Craig’s Facebook status today, “Craig is better… triple venti non fat white mocha extra hot no whip…. that just happened.” Sometimes I question Craig’s manliness. ![]()
