I’m Leavin’ On a Jet Plane…

I’m heading back to Indianapolis on Thursday and already I’ve heard people say, “have a safe trip!” I know they all mean well, but I have absolutely, postitively no control over the safety of my trip. Fortunately for me, I have a well-qualified airline pilot who, if it all works out, will safely get me to my destination. If it makes my fellow passengers feel at-ease, I have hundreds of hours in Microsoft’s Flight Simulator under my belt. Ha ha!

Anyway, it got me thinking about my favorite George Carlin bit called “Airline Announcements.” I’ve put both parts of the video below. I will warn you, some might be offended by vulgarity (after all, it is Carlin) and an occasional crude reference. But apart from that, I watch this video thinking that Carlin had to have been an English major in college. Why? He talks at-length about how airlines totally mis-use words, phrases, and try to “puff” things up to make them sound more important than what they really are. Enjoy!
