Over the past few weeks, I’ve been to a couple conferences that deal with my main field of web development. I’ve come out of these sessions with great ideas and given the fuel I need to keep going.
But I walked into my office the other day and realized that I need to design a creative space to work in! I spent last night checking out bookshelves at IKEA, looking for prints at AllPosters.com, and checking out paint sites to get an idea of cool colors for my office. I was getting kind of bummed because I couldn’t find anything that fit my style.
So with some motivation, I hopped on my bike and rode down to the Carmel International Arts Festival (www.carmelartsfestival.org). I was looking from tent to tent looking for stuff and then I came across Trudy’s booth. I was so excited to see some of her work because to me, it inspires creativity, fun, and the casual look I was going for. Here are the three prints I bought.
I’m thinking I may have to go see her for more prints, but for now, those were the three that I really loved. To see more of her work and to order, you can visit her on the web at www.TruDysigns.com. She has drawings of your favorite college campuses (IU, PU, Notre Dame), places around Indianapolis, and so much more.
Now if I can only figure out what colors to paint my office… sigh… Oh well, my jambalaya is ready to be consumed and it’s a beautiful day, so I’ll worry about my office later.
So when I moved to Carmel, I knew I was going to be near the Arts & Design District. In the end, there’s nothing especially great about it. There are a few restaurants, some shops, some apartments. But the greatest thing that stuck out to me were the statues! When I first moved there, there were around five, but a few more have sprung up and surprised me when I’m driving down the road and see them. So here are my fake neighbors…
As I was putting the post together, my bird when a little nuts and flew into the maintenance closet next to the kitchen and found himself in a grocery bag full of newspapers!
After mocking him and taking his picture, he didn’t have much to say to me…
Ahhh, the beach. My Spring Break officially started after class today at 11:30 a.m. and I’m stuck in Indiana. Yep, that happens when you’re spontaneous and you normally make travel plans at the last minute. So for now, I am looking at beach scenes and wishing I was there.
It’s been a fairly exciting week, as I have been apartment hunting! Needless to say it’s been fairly successful and I think I may have found a place in Carmel… yup… Carmel. For all the trash talking I’ve done towards Carmel in my four years at North Central, I have decided that Carmel has grown on me.
I have plenty of money saved up to buy the essentials for the kitchen and bathroom and will probably look around places for used furniture (hello flea markets, Craig’s List, and Goodwill!). After I go on my shopping spree at Target, I think I’ll have a lot of what I need, I just won’t have any living room furniture, which isn’t a big deal to me. Why? Because summer time means that I’ll be outside a lot and there will be Tiki Time at Noah’s house!
Which by the way, reminds me that I need to find a bike to go on the Monon… I’ve been using my Dad’s bike for years, but I don’t think he likes the idea of me taking his bike with me.
So overall, I’m pretty content with life. I’m excited about the near future, the upcoming warm weather, a new place… I think everything is starting to come together.
I have to thank God the most for helping me through over the past several months. I’ve slipped up a few times, but I think I’m finally in a good place: at school, at home, and at work. Woo hoo! Well, that’s all for now. I’ll keep you posted on apartment updates!
So I was driving home after dropping of Noah after class when I came to the roundabout at 96th Street and Westfield Blvd. Now, this thing has been in place for well over a year now and I’d like to think that people would have learned how to navigate it by now. But no, there have been at least three accidents I know of at the intersection in the past year and at least one of those ended in the death of two people (they crashed into the concrete fountain in the middle).
All I’ve gotta say is that I love roundabouts, it almost makes it worth having Brainard as mayor of Carmel. I’m still trying to figure out how to pull off this stunt (see video below) in my Geo Prizm, but I’m afraid Carmel PD may not like it.
But seriously, if you don’t know how to navigate through a roundabout, you really should learn. Fortunately, the lovely people at Carmel PD have a link to a “roundabout demonstration.” Take notes people, roundabouts are supposed to be a GOOD THING. Sure beats having to wait at a traffic light.
