Why I Love Fall

Posted by Kiel on Oct 7, 2008

It’s been a pretty glorious week, aside from the allergies. Some friends and I made it out to Stuckey Farm for some apple picking, apple cider, apple butter, pretty much all things apple.

I love this time of year. While I love the summer months and wished they’d never end, I also love the change in seasons. The weather begins to cool down, leaves start to change color, it gets darker earlier. I also love it because I haven’t had to run the air conditioner in at least a week, saving on my energy costs. Woo hoo!

In fact, it’s raining right now and I’ve been sipping on some warm apple cider, listening to Ray Charles with the windows open. It’s probably one of my favorite things in the world… okay, I’m over exaggerating, but it is pretty sweet.

Some other things I like about fall? Halloween, haunted houses, watching movies, football… oh the list could go on.

In other news, I’ve slowly been making the switch at work from a PC laptop to a MacBook. Overall I like the MacBook because it’s faster than my work laptop, I can switch around programs easier, and it’s just easier on the eyes. I finally got Office 2008 and have been using Entourage, which was one of my biggest “ties” to my PC. I don’t think my boss planned on me keeping it as my primary machine, but I think it’s going to work out beautifully.

Work is going okay, I really need to decorate my office after being there a year, but have been too busy doing other things to really spend the time to take care of that… hopefully I’ll find a paint scheme that I like and just get it over with.

Well, I suppose I should go to bed for now. Have a small conference tomorrow morning, our IT man and our production director will be talking about the technologies we use at Grace. Fortunately I don’t have to speak, but I’m hoping that by this time next year, we can have a new website in place that we can brag about. I hope all of you are enjoying this beautiful fall weather!

It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood

Posted by Kiel on Oct 26, 2007

As Mister Rogers would say, it is a beautiful day in the neighborhood. The picture above is of our new South Auditorium here at Grace Community Church. It’s amazing how much our campus is growing! If you read my last post, you know that I’m not big on change, but I’m interested in seeing what God does.

I had an interesting day yesterday. I saw that my renewal sticker for my license plate had been stolen. That’s right, you heard it right, STOLEN. Looking back, it could’ve been worse because my entire plate could’ve been stolen. But it’s still a hassle. I went to the license branch before they closed and had to fill out a form. Well, it turns out that I had to have an IMPD officer come out and fill out paperwork and then I can come back to the BMV and get a new plate (or sticker). Being a fanboy of the police, I had a good talk with the officer. We’ve started a CrimeWatch in our neighborhood because of increasing crime, so it’s been important for us as a neighborhood to build a good working relationship with the police.

There’s not much going on this weekend for me. If the weather continues to stay beautiful, I may go down to Brown County and do some photography. Brown County is famous for the leaves changing colors every fall (among other things). But it’s just awesome to see a ton of trees change colors, it gives us something to enjoy before the really cold weather comes.

Be thankful, it’s a short post from me today! I’m learning more about blogging and seeing if it’s a good solution for us here at Grace. I just finished a book called “The Blogging Church” by Brian Bailey, I may write a review for it, we shall see. I hope all of you have a great weekend!
