I’ve been a fan of Joseph Arthur for several years since I came across some of his music. I like this song, “In the Sun”, because of it’s depth. To me, it tells the story of a man who was with a girl who brought out the best (and possibly worst) in him. Now that she’s no longer in his life, he has pictures in his mind of how she’s handling the break-up. And it seems like he wants to apologize, but the opportunity hasn’t presented itself.
I don’t know why, but I just love this song. The instrumentals are done well, his voice fits well, and the lyrics are pretty awesome. Here’s a video of Joseph singing “In the Sun,” it’s not the studio version, but it still sounds pretty good. I hope you enjoy!
In the Sun
Joseph Arthur
I picture you in the sun wondering what went wrong
And falling down on your knees asking for sympathy
And being caught in between all you wish for and all you seen
And trying to find anything you can feel that you can believe in
May God’s love be with you
Always
May God’s love be with you
I know i would apologize if i could see your eyes
‘Cause when you showed me myself i became someone else
But i was caught in between all you wish for and all you need
I picture you fast asleep
A nightmare comes
You can’t keep awake
May God’s love be with you
Always
May God’s love be with you
‘Cause if i find
If i find my own way
How much will i find
If i find
If i find my own way
How much will i find
You
I don’t know anymore
What it’s for
I’m not even sure
If there is anyone who is in the sun
Will you help me to understand
‘Cause i been caught in between all I wish for and all I need
Maybe you’re not even sure what it’s for
Any more than me
May God’s love be with you
Always
May God’s love be with you
This is an interesting song by The Fray. It’s about a man asking God some questions, like, “where were you?” I haven’t processed through it, but though i’d share it with all of you.
You Found Me
The Fray
I found God
On the corner of First and Amistad
Where the west
Was all but won
All alone
Smoking his last cigarette
I said, “Where you been?”
He said, “Ask anything.”
Where were you
When everything was falling apart?
All my days
Were spent by the telephone
That never rang
And all I needed was a call
It never came
To the corner of First and Amistad
Lost and insecure
You found me, you found me
Lying on the floor
Surrounded, surrounded
Why’d you have to wait?
Where were you, where were you?
Just a little late
You found me, You found me
In the end
Everyone ends up alone
Losing her
The only one who’s ever known
Who I am
Who I’m not, and who I want to be
No way to know
How long she will be next to me
Lost and insecure
You found me, you found me
Lying on the floor
Surrounded, surrounded
Why’d you have to wait?
Where were you, where were you?
Just a little late
You found me, You found me
Early morning
The city breaks
I’ve been calling
For years and years and years and years
And you never left me no messages
You never sent me no letters
You got some kind of nerve
Taking all I want
Lost and insecure
You found me, you found me
Lying on the floor
Where were you, where were you?
Lost and insecure
You found me, you found me
Lying on the floor
Surrounded, surrounded
Why’d you have to wait?
Where were you, where were you?
Just a little late
You found me, You found me
As I continue looking for new songs, I am continually amazed how talented Chris Tomlin is. For those of you who don’t know who he is, let’s just say that he’s kind of a big deal in Christian music… almost like… well, there is no comparison. Time and again he writes excellent songs and this is no exception. We recently played this song at our Covenant Community gathering at Grace.
I think sometimes we forget who is in charge. It’s not a mayor, governor, or president… but God. We can influence our communities… our cities. Some friends and I were recently inspired by our church’s Weekend of Service that we have decided that we want to contribute to our community by serving the homeless. It started out as, “we’ll cook meals and take them downtown on Tuesdays.” But then we realized that there are already organizations out there doing these things, so we’re going to connect with them.
Anyways… back to Tomlin. It’s a great song… enjoy!
God of This City
Chris Tomlin
You’re the God of this city
You’re the King of these people
You’re the Lord of this nation
You Are
For there is no one like our God
There is no one like our God
Greater things have yet to come
Great things are still to be done
In this city
Greater things are still to come
And greater things are still to be done here
You’re the Lord of Creation
The Creator of all things
You’re the King above all Kings
You Are
You’re the strength in our weakness
You’re the love to the broken
You’re the joy in the sadness
You Are
Greater things have yet to come
Great things are still to be done
In this city
Where glory shines from hearts alive
With praise for you and love for you
In this city
Greater things have yet to come
Great things are still to be done
In this city
Greater things are still to come
And greater things are still to be done here
I don’t know how or why this song by Alanis Morissette got into my head today, but I immediately loaded up iTunes on my iPhone and downloaded it. It’s a great song and Alanis has an awesome voice.
Head Over Feet
Alanis Morissette
I had no choice but to hear you
You stated your case time and again
I thought about it
You treat me like I’m a princess
I’m not used to liking that
You ask how my day was
You’ve already won me over in spite of me
And don’t be alarmed if I fall head over feet
Don’t be surprised if I love you for all that you are
I couldn’t help it
It’s all your fault
Your love is thick and it swallowed me whole
You’re so much braver than I gave you credit for
That’s not lip service
You’ve already won me over in spite of me
And don’t be alarmed if I fall head over feet
Don’t be surprised if I love you for all that you are
I couldn’t help it
It’s all your fault
You are the bearer of unconditional things
You held your breath and the door for me
Thanks for your patience
You’re the best listener that I’ve ever met
You’re my best friend
Best friend with benefits
What took me so long
I’ve never felt this healthy before
I’ve never wanted something rational
I am aware now
I am aware now
You’ve already won me over in spite of me
And don’t be alarmed if I fall head over feet
Don’t be surprised if I love you for all that you are
I couldn’t help it
It’s all your fault
This song was played at a memorial service I was at today. It has a great message about how sometimes things don’t work out the way we expect, but we keep going… really got me thinkin.
Anyway
Martina McBride
You can spend your whole life building
Something from nothin’
One storm can come and blow it all away
Build it anyway
You can chase a dream
That seems so out of reach
And you know it might not ever come your way
Dream it anyway
God is great
But sometimes life ain’t good
And when I pray
It doesn’t always turn out like I think it should
But I do it anyway
I do it anyway
This world’s gone crazy
It’s hard to believe
That tomorrow will be better than today
Believe it anyway
You can love someone with all your heart
For all the right reasons
In a moment they can choose to walk away
Love ‘em anyway
God is great
But sometimes life ain’t good
And when I pray
It doesn’t always turn out like I think it should
But I do it anyway
Yea – I do it anyway
You can pour your soul out singing
A song you believe in
That tomorrow they’ll forget you ever sang
Sing it anyway
Yea, sing it anyway
Yeah, yeah!
