So it’s been almost a week since my last post. I’ve been keeping pretty busy as I get closer to my move-in date. The one thing I’ve really been lacking for the new place is furniture. I’ve been looking everywhere trying to find the perfect furniture to match the colors that I’ve picked out for my new place. Unforunately, everything I saw was either too ugly or I didn’t like the fabric… I am not a big fan of “micro-fiber” by the way… nor am I a fan of micro-fiber couches that are made to look like leather, but don’t feel like leather.

I kid you not, this salesman was like, “here’s a couch that looks like leather, but it’s not.” Honestly… either you like leather or you don’t… and if you like leather, you’d be pretty disappointed to sit down on a couch that looked like leather, but was micro-fiber.

So I went over to Kittle’s Rooms Express and found a glass kitchen table I like with four chairs… which is pretty sweet. I ended up going back to Kittle’s for my couches too since I couldn’t find anything good at the other stores. I ended up spending more than I wanted, but if I pay it off before January, I don’t incur any interest…. sweet.

Milo has been busy getting used to his new surroundings (which will change in a week anyways). I cover him up at night, but in the morning when I get up, I place him by the window and he chirps very happily to greet the day. He does this (much to my brothers’ dislike) for about 5 minutes. I have taught him to perch on my finger and pretty much nothing else. He has gotten brave enough to fly, but ended up running into the refrigerator and also pooping himself in the process… Milo has learned that the refrigerator is not your friend (if you’re a bird anyways).

I’m looking forward to next week, I’ll be working Monday through Wednesday, while taking Thursday and Friday off. I don’t have a ton of stuff and fortunately, Kittle’s is going to deliver my furniture. I thought about bringing the U-Haul by their warehouse to save money, but in the end, I’m too lazy to carry all that furniture upstairs.

Well, that’s all for now. I hope everyone is doing well!

So I’m counting down the days until I finally move out of my boyhood home and go out on my own. I’ve lived in this house around 18 years and I have some really good memories… so in a way, it’s kind of sad to leave.

But as the campus pastor at Crossroads told me, there comes a time when the baby bird has to move out of the nest. So how appropriate for me to mark this occasion of moving out of the nest by getting myself a new friend… of the feathered kind.

His name is Milo and he’s a cockatiel. After work I headed over to PetSmart and bought the cage, the food, the toys… the whole deal. And then I went across the street to PetLand to pick up Milo (since PetSmart didn’t have the specific type of cockatiel that I wanted). I pimped out his cage with a lot of cool little things to do and I think I’ll introduce him to Friends during the day while I’m gone… I’m sure the bird will love getting acquainted with Joey, Chandler, Ross, Rachel, Monica and Phoebe! “How you doin?”

My sweet new bike

I’ve slowly been packing things up in preparation for the move (which is in 14 days). The last thing I really have to pack up is the stuff in my room, which isn’t a lot. I am also excited for it to warm up because I bought this awesome Schwinn at Target the other week and have been eager to take it on the Monon… in fact, I have spent a lot of money at Target in the past month… they should reward me!

So yeah… in a nutshell… that’s what’s new. I feel like my life is finally moving forward in a good way. The past couple of years has been a big time of growth for me, but I didn’t feel like I was really getting anywhere. Now I have a job, new place to live, some awesome friends… I feel very blessed.

Well my friends, that’s all for now. I tried to cover up Milo’s cage as best as I could so I can play Call of Duty 4 online while he tries and sleeps (can you believe that they need at least 10-12 hours of sleep?!). I hope all of you are well!

I’m in Paradise… no really! I’m sitting here at Paradise Bakery & Cafe here in Clay Terrace enjoying a lovely lunch: chicken walnut sandwich, broccoli cheddar soup, and a cookie. It is awesome! And it’s a great place to be half-way through the day. My boss is downtown for part of the day, my co-worker is in Florida, and the communications office is quiet. So what do I do? I grab my laptop and head off to Clay Terrace to have a lunch/work hour.

We were awakened this morning to a nice scene of snow. I guess we had it coming when my friend Noah was complaining last week, “why is it so cold and there’s no snow?” I just laughed at him… but today we got snow! I was driving home from class yesterday, saw the highway trucks salting the roads and I was thinking to myself, “wow, either they’re overreacting or it’s really going to snow!” Needless to say, I was not disappointed this morning. A few people on the roads apparently lost their common sense, as a past a few cars off the side of the road, but as the day as progressed, the sun has melted the snow and ice off of most roadways.

While I’m sitting here in Clay Terrace, I might as well comment about the story of citizens complaining about the displays at Victoria’s Secret. From a Christian standpoint, I can definitely understand why people would be concerned. I just hope that these people haven’t been giving the local staff a hard time, after all, their corporate office decides what to display in the windows. But let’s see this for what it really is, it’s just underwear people! The woman behind the complaint even complained when they changed the mannequins to pajamas claiming it was “too suggestive.”

Well ma’am, I have some advice for you. Now is a good time to educate your children about what you feel is appropriate and inappropriate. As much as we’d love to shelter our children from the less-than-desirable things in this world, it is important that we educate rather than shelter them. As a consumer, you also have the choice not to shop there. And if you really want to prevent your kids from looking, walk them to the other side of the street. Honestly, I remember that Indianapolis had a Fredrick’s of Hollywood (which is more risque than VS) store at one point and time. When we’d have to walk by it, my mom would make us cover our eyes and we would giggle… like little boys do when things are funny or awkward.

Well, that’s just my two-cents. It’s time for me to pack up and head back to the office. What do you think about this topic? Do you care? Do store displays offend you?

I often heard of the madness of Black Friday, but never believed it. Well, I finally experienced it today. I was up at 5:30 AM for no reason really, I probably got too cold. So I decided, “hey, I’ll go to Target since they open at 6 AM!” I have to tell you, it was crazy. A parking lot that is normally empty at 6 AM looked like it was 6 PM… it was pretty full! And the entrance to the store? People were streaming in like ants, grabbing carts (I can still hear the “clacks” as people separate the carts and run off into sales nirvana.)

It was mostly women… and they were grabbing all the DVDs on sale. Perhaps the busiest part of the store was the electronics as people were aiming to get whatever was on sale: DVD/TV combos, digital cameras, gaming systems, DVDs, if it was on sale, people were clamoring for it.

As for me? Well, I bought a couple of the DVDs that were on sale, but mostly went to buy some food. Now I will probably pop in one of those movies and rest for a while… dreaming of my first Black Friday experience. I hope my future wife doesn’t partake in this madness… I don’t want her to be one of those women that are normal 364 days out of the year and then goes crazy the day after Thanksgiving! Ha ha! Well, that’s all for now!
